Gear Rail Logistics (“GRL”) is a proudly African company that provides its customers requiring rail logistics with bespoke and unique rail freight transport and rail operations that ensure reliable service and scheduled delivery of bulk cargo, fuel and containerised freight, on regional or cross-border corridors.
We partner with regional railways and ports to service our customers through the development of rail corridor freight solutions and rail terminal infrastructure, facilitating freight migration from ‘road to rail’.
Gear Rail Logistics has strong customer-centric synergies with other Gear Rail companies in the SADC region, particularly a symbiotic partnership with Locologix, for the provision of fully maintained rolling stock that we manage and operate on behalf of our customers.
Our experienced and capable rail operations team assist our customers in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of their freight; we take responsibility for stakeholder management at both the customer and the railway/port operators to ensure harmonised logistics.
GRL prioritises projects that focus on both rail and terminal asset transformation as a cornerstone to improved and sustainable regional rail logistics that increase the adoption of rail as a freight preference. These criteria include:
- ‘New’ capacity creation – rail terminals, new trains, under-utilised corridors
- Industry solutions – that impact and improve how the industry is currently configured
- Long-term in nature – railway capacity, with the required investment, cannot be created overnight
Our regional focus is on South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Eswatini.
Gear Rail Logistics in South Africa is a certified BBBEE company, with Pilane Consulting, a 100% black woman- owned company, being a significant shareholder.
